What are some common myths the Titans are in?
The Titans were a part of many myths, but specifically the creation story of the world, (from the Greeks perspective) and the myth/story of how the Olympians overthrew the Titans.
How did the Olympians overthrow the Titans?
Rhea is Handing a Stone
to Cronus instead of Zeus
A myth:
When Uranus was the king, he took six of the Titans brothers and imprisoned them in “the belly of the earth.” This made Gaia (Mother Earth) have a lot of pain, so she tried to persuade her Titan sons to revolt against their father Uranus. Led by Cronus, everyone except for Oceanus, put an ambush on Uranus, grabbing him as he fell down onto the Earth. Four of the Titans where assigned to the four corners of the Earth to hold Uranus. Meanwhile, Cronus held him back with a sickle. Once they had gained power over the whole universe, the Titans let their giant brothers go, only to later lock them up in the pit of Tartarus.
Uranus and Gaia predicted that a son of Cronus would eventually become the Titan king. Cronus, in fear of his throne, decided to eat all of his children as soon as they were born. Zeus, however, escaped when his mother (Rhea) hid him in a cave on the island of Crete and tricked Cronus by giving him a rock wrapped in cloth, which he then swallowed because he thought it was his newborn son, Zeus. When Zeus grew up, he showed himself with help from Metes, the daughter of Oceanus, and she gave Cronus a potion that made him vomit all of the children and the stone he had swallowed. Back together with his siblings, Zeus declared war on Cronus and the rest of the ruling Titans. The war lasted 10 years, when Gaia finally said that Zeus could have the victory if he would deliver the Cyclops and Hecatoncheires from Tartarus. Zeus killed Campe (who guarded the Cyclops) and the Cyclops thanked Zeus by giving him thunder and lightning. Hades gave Zeus a helmet and Poseidon gave him a trident.
The Titans were then overpowered and thrown into the pit of Tartarus, where they were guarded by the Hecatoncheires, and Zeus then became the king of the gods and took his place on Mount Olympus.
